FAQ

Why Dehydrated?

Because we wanted to make it easy for you by making our kit shelf
stable allowing you to make your broth whenever you have the time. Dehydrated vegetables are dried at their peak of freshness.

Do dehydrated veggies lose their nutritional value?

The answer is no. You might be surprised to know that pound for pound, dehydrated vegetables have almost the identical nutritional value as fresh vegetables. They can be even better nutritionally than fresh foods. That’s because dehydrating keeps vegetables from degrading while preserving the vitamins so your body can enjoy all of the wonderful nutrients and antioxidants, no matter when you choose to make your broth.

What is the Difference Between dehydrated and raw vegetables?

The biggest difference between fresh food and dehydrated foods is water. The process of dehydrating preserves food by removing 98 percent of its water content. While preventing food from spoiling, it still maintains most of its flavor, color, texture, and nutritional value.

The way it works is the lower the temperature you dry vegetables, at the more nutrients they retain. When it comes to dehydrating fruits and vegetables, the dehydrating process is used to gently evaporate the water from the produce. Consider the fruits and vegetables sitting around in your refrigerator produce bin losing nutrients. Arguably we should not worry about the loss of nutrients in dehydrating since there will be plenty of nutrition left.

Dehydrated vegetables may even be more nutritious because they are dehydrated at their peak of freshness. Once they are harvested, they are dehydrated right away. In this case by doing so dehydrated foods can be even better nutritionally than fresh foods. Dehydrating keeps vegetables from degrading and keeps the vitamins intact. If you consider raw vegetables have been ripening while they travel to the market, then they’ve been sitting on the display cases until they are purchased. Clearly they are not at their freshest point.

Can I make Vegetable Broth with the Spice Kit?

Yes, It makes a delicious vegetable broth. Just combine the spice kit with water in your Instant Pot and cook for 1 ½ hours or 3 hours on your stove top. You’ll get many more quarts of vegetable broth because there are no bones in the pot to take up the room.

Can I use the Veggie Spice Kit as a soup base?

We would not recommend using the kit for soups. The Veggie Spice Kit has peppercorns to help activate the turmeric’s healing properties. Peppercorns are not that palatable in a soup, they are meant to be strained out. You also may want to be able to control the amount of spices you put in your soup.

How long will the dehydrated vegetables last?

Dehydrated vegetables will last many years because 98% of their water has been removed. This means that your spice kit will always be fresh, nutrient dense and ready for you to make broth whenever you want.

Where to buy bones for the broth?

From your next door neighbor the hunter, left over chicken or turkey carcasses that you’ve frozen. You can also but them at your local high end grocery store like Whole Foods or Bristol Farms. In the Pacific Northwest you can get them at Whole Foods. Chucks Produce, New Seasons or Rosauers. You can also buy online at Grassroots Coop. Check out Beth’s preferred vendors here.

Are there any preservatives, sulfites or additives?

Our dehydrated veggie spice packet has no preservatives, chemicals, added salts or sugars, or other additives. You can rest assured that all of our vegetables are natural, healthy and delicious.

Why Bone Broth?

Why We Use Completely Grass Fed & Grass Finished Beef For Our Bone Broth

    Medicinal Ingredients And Benefits

We add the following medicinal ingredients to our premium bone broths:

Turmeric: antioxidant, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic activity, and anti-carcinogenic properties [1].

Maitake Mushrooms: Considered to be a medicinal mushroom. Compared to other mushrooms, maitake has shown better results in preventing and fighting cancer, helps fight tumors, improves the immune system, lowers blood pressure and reduces tumors [2].

Garlic and Black Garlic: Reduces homocysteine levels in the bloodstream, which is good for the heart. Garlic also stimulates white blood cell activity and helps fight infections including colds, fungal infections and candida [3]. Black Garlic is superior to white garlic in that it contains an additional very specific compound called S-Allycysteine (SAC) in very high concentrations, which is water soluble and thus absorbed easily within the body. This helps contribute to its antidiabetic, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory activities. In a nutshell Black Garlic boosts immune function, heals the liver from alcohol damage, provides high antioxidant levels, improves cholesterol, and reduces inflammation [4].

Drink Bone Broth to Help with Joint Pain

Joint pain is usually due to overuse, inflammation, or something more complex like an inflammatory or degenerative disease. Bone broth won’t cure your joint pain, but it can definitely help! Methionine, an essential amino acid found in bone broth, can help maintain and form new cartilage, the connective tissue that protects your joints. Methionine in therapeutic doses can lessen pain from rheumatoid arthritis, an autoimmune disease that causes your body to attack your joint tissue. The amino acids in bone broth can help repair tissue and calm inflammation. Taking this daily, in addition to a low-inflammatory diet can do wonders for pain [5].

Drink Bone Broth to Support Your Gut Lining

Many people fighting disease, especially cancer, quickly lose the ability to properly digest their food. Their body is in a constant stressful state and combined with the large list of pharmaceuticals they are taking, destroys the lining of the gut and the enzymes to break down food. This results in a lack of desire to eat, loss of weight, constant throwing up and severe anemia [6].

Beth’s Bountiful Bone Broth is a very effective and gentle way to stimulate digestion and calm the stomach. The appetite generally comes back along with the desire to eat as the broth is loaded with the nutrients needed for this (gelatin, calcium, magnesium, potassium and other important minerals). Plus, it is loaded with many essential amino acids.

Fight IBS, Crohn’s And Digestive Disorders with Bone Broth

Exposure to environmental toxins, indulgence in the Standard American Diet, pharmaceutical drug use and physical and emotional stress, can cause the mucosal lining (gut lining) to look like a fishnet stocking rather than a workout resistance band. Toxins can cause the mucosal lining to become penetrated and undigested foods can slip through the gut lining into the bloodstream. Many have heard this symptom referred to as “leaky gut,” and it is commonly associated with IBS, Crohn’s disease and other digestive disorders.

In these conditions affecting the gut, the bodies’ immune system responds as if ‘foreign invaders’ are floating throughout the blood stream. Then your white blood cells attack, histamines are produced, and food allergies are born. If this is ignored, the immune system becomes so used to ‘attacking’ foreign invaders that it loses the ability to differentiate between the ‘good’ and ‘bad’ resulting in attacks on the digestive system itself. These are called autoimmune disorders. Bone broth with its abundance of glutamine, collagen and other essential amino acids works to ‘spackle’ the holes in the gut lining and reduce symptoms [7].

Drink Bone Broth For Beautiful Skin

It promotes elasticity for firm smooth skin. It contains collagen which is the most important nutrient for skin elasticity. It will give your skin a firm, plump, youthful appearance [8]. The marrow bones contain several essential vitamins and minerals, including zinc, which is an important mineral for maintaining clear skin and fighting acne. The alkaline minerals that bone broth provides encourage better oxygen flow throughout the body. This good circulation is essential for bright, glowing skin [9].
